STORM - Storm

Storm hail from Spain, and their 1974 debut owes more than a little to British bands such as Deep Purple. Guitar based hard rock with lashings of organ make it somewhat derivative, although the songs themselves are good examples of the genre. Guitar and organ duels abound, and generally the guitar work is first rate. Although they sing in English, at times the accent can make for amusing mis-hearings, as in the opening track which is called 'I've Gotta Tell You Mama' but to my ears sounds like 'I've Got A Bad Designer'! Some of the tracks are instrumental (generally these are the ones with Spanish titles), and for these the band slow the pace down a fraction and bring the organ to the fore. For 'It's Alright' and 'I Don't Know' the Purple comparisons rear their head again, and so we get some fine heavy rock in the classic vein. 'Crazy Machine' is slightly let down by a rather dated drum solo, but 'Experimencia Sin Organo' more than makes up for it with some stinging guitar. One of the best Spanish rock albums that I have heard, and you no longer have to search around and pay £125 for a copy as it has just been re-issued on CD.
