BRIGG - Brigg

I have been putting off trying this album for quite a while since it was described as folk-tinged psychedelic rock and not particularly memorable in Fuzz Acid And Flowers. Now that I have finally heard it I can say that it is not as bad as I had feared, althought the 'not particularly memorable' bit probably does apply. The band were American, and they released this album privately in 1972, and while it does feature some folk-tinged pieces there are also a couple of fine hard rock tracks in 'Hey Mister' and 'If Only You Could See Me Now'. 'Universe' and 'The War Is Over' are both reflective ballads, and the vocalist does seem to be more at home on these tracks, with the faster songs stretching his abilities slightly. The flute on 'Linda' is a nice touch, and the closing track on this somewhat short album - 'Sneaker Tongue' - seems to consist of the sound of the band packing up their instruments and driving off from the studio! This has been repressed a few times, but is currently unavailable on CD, although it does seem to re-appear now and then. Worth a listen, but certainly not worth the £300 that an original copy can command.
