The Party Line
BELLE & SEBASTIAN – Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance (Matador)

For the band that pretty much invented twee-pop to produce the dance-y ‘Enter Sylvia Plath’ and ‘The Party Line’ is something of a shock, and they’ve lost fans because of it, but they’re still the same band at heart, with Murdoch’s acerbic lyrics and catchy melodies to the fore. The first two tracks are B&S of old, to placate the long-time fans, but if they want to try a new direction then I’m giving them a chance.
