RYLEY WALKER – Primrose Green (Dead Oceans)

Although only in his mid-twenties, Chicago-based acid-folkie Ryley Walker seems to have re-invented a style of folk/jazz that died out when Pentangle split. The title track is a paean to his favourite strain of weed, and there’s a smoky, jazz-club feel to a lot of the tracks, reinforced by the use of upright bass. A great retro-folk album of Bert Jansch-style guitar-picking mixed with Tim Buckley inspired vocals.
